Nylon

Common trade names are:
VNylon 101 - Nylatron - MC Nylon - Nycast
Nyoil - Nymntal - Sustamid

Nylon thermoplastics are defined by their toughness, low coefficient of friction and good abrasion resistance. Using nylon reduces lubrication requirements, eliminates galling, corrosion and pilferage problems, and improves wear resistance and sound dampening characteristics.

Nylon 6/6 (extruded) is the most widely used of the nylon plastics, is avail-able in a number of formulations for molding and extrusion. Nylon 6 (cast) is the second most widely used of the nylons. Its properties are similar to those of 6/6, but it absorbs moisture more rapidly and its melting point is 70*F/21*C lower.

The nylon monomer casting process differs from injection molding or extrusion. The casting process of polymerizing in the mold produces a material with higher molecular weigth and crystallinity and therefore better dimensional stability, easier machining, and higher compressive and tensile strengths than those achieved by extruding or molding.
