Polyethylene,
a polyolefin, is the largest volume thermoplastic polymer used today.
Characterized by its toughness, excellent chemical resistance and
elec-trical properties, low coefficient of friction, near-zero moisture
absorption, light weight, and ease of processing.
This
thermoplastic is available is a wide variety of grades and formulations,
including LDPE, MDPE, HDPE, & UHMW-PE.
Low-Density
PE is charaterized by good toughness and flexibility, relatively
low heat resistance, low-termperature impact resistance, and clarity
in film form.
Medium-Density
PE is a homopolymer that is usually processed in high-pres-sure
system.
High-Density
PE resins rigidity and tensile strength are considerably higher
than those of the low and medium density materials.
